AN EXCEPTIONAL LOCATION OF THE PR’ TATKO HOSTEL IN THE SLOVENE COUNTRYSIDE - IN PODKOREN NEAR KRANJSKA GORA

  The “Pr’ tatko” youth hostel is located in the centre of the village of Podkoren, at the Italy-Austria-Slovenia tri-border. The village of Podkoren is a genuine Gorenjska region village, in a typical alpine style with the village square and the village linden tree in the middle of it. In the 17th century, a church was built in Gothic style and dedicated to Saint Andrew.

  Podkoren near Kranjska Gora is surrounded by the Julian Alps, the Karawanken and the Triglav National Park and is an excellent starting point for day trips to the Slovene (Bled, Planica, Triglav, or across VršiÄ� to Trenta to the springs of the SoÄ�a river and further along its stream down to the valley), as well as to the Austrian (the Carinthia lakes and the local thermal baths) and the Italian countryside (Višarje, the lakes of Bela PeÄ� – it. Laghi di Fusine). You can take these day trips by car, by bike, or on foot.

WHERE ARE WE?

  We are situated in the centre of the village of Podkoren near Kranjska Gora, at the Italy - Austria - Slovenia tri-border, on the northern edge of the Triglav National Park, which is an excellent starting point for day trips to the Slovene as well as Austrian and Italian countryside.

  Even though the Gornjesavska valley, in which the village of Podkoren lies, is embraced by the mighty Karawanken mountain range and the Julian Alps, it is, in fact, very easily accessible. A half-hour drive by car and already you reach the motorway in Italy (Trbiž/Tarvisio), Austria (Beljak/Villach) or Slovenia (the Karawanken tunnel at Jesenice, or from Ljubljana). The railways are located nearby, and the Ljubljana Jože PuÄ�nik Airport is less than a half-hour drive away.

BY CAR

From Ljubljana: In Slovenia, the motorway from Ljubljana past Kranj, Jesenice and Kranjska Gora will take you to the village of Podkoren near Kranjska Gora. A further 1.5 kilometres from Kranjska Gora, you take a right turn in the direction of Austria and an immediate left turn to the village centre. The hostel stands in the village square, right at the village linden tree.

From Beljak/Villach-Austria: From Austria and from the direction of Beljak (Villach) across the state border of Korensko sedlo, you take a right turn to the village centre. If you arrive through the Karawanken tunnel, you exit the motorway right after the state border towards Kranjska Gora and after 1.5 kilometres; you take a right turn in the direction of Austria and an immediate left turn to the village centre. The hostel stands in the village square, right at the village linden tree.

From Trbiž/Tarvisio-Italy: From Italy (Tarvisio), you enter Slovenia across the Rate�e state border; in the village of Podkoren, you take a left turn to the village centre. The hostel stands in the middle of the village of Podkoren in the village square, right at the village linden tree.

ARRIVING BY AIRPLANE

From the Ljubljana Jože Pu�nik Airport in Ljubljana past Kranjska Gora to Podkoren is a 45-minute drive (69 km), from the airport in Celovec (Klagenfurt, Austria) only a 40-minute drive, and from Trst (Trieste, Italy) an additional hour's drive.
